Cosmo is a 16-month-old, 19-pound Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix with a gentle spirit and a quiet resilience. He came to us from a hoarding and neglect situation here in Vermont, where he had to be carefully pulled from his cage during rescue. Despite his difficult start, Cosmo is already showing just how much he’s capable of when given safety and kindness.

In just four short weeks, Cosmo has made remarkable progress. He has mastered his potty training, accepts treats gently from our hands, and has begun to show affection through tail wags and sweet little kisses. He’s happiest spending the day curled up on the couch as long as his person is nearby.

Cosmo has recently been groomed, neutered, and received a complete health check. He does not appear to understand what a leash is for yet, though he doesn’t mind wearing one. With winter weather limiting outdoor exploration, we’re still learning how he’ll feel about walks and playtime outside. What we do know is that he thrives with patience, consistency, and reward-based encouragement. He has no negative habits and responds beautifully to kindness.

A securely fenced yard — with or without a canine companion — is required for Cosmo. Having safe outdoor space will be essential to helping him continue building confidence and discovering the joys of being a dog.
