Meet Archie — A Typical Hound with an Unforgettable Story

Archie is a 2.5-year-old, 55 lb hound who has the energy, curiosity, and charm you’d expect from his breed. He’s a classic hound through and through — full of zest for life, nose to the ground, always ready for a walk, a romp in the yard, or a good game of “where did my sock go?”

But Archie’s story isn’t typical.

He was found as a stray in rural North Carolina — underweight, skittish, and clearly unfamiliar with indoor life. He had never known a real home. No soft bed. No regular meals. No one to show him kindness. At some point, both of his back legs were broken and never treated. He healed on his own, without help, and now walks with a slightly different gait and doesn’t fully sit — but he is not in pain and doesn’t let it slow him down. He has completed heartworm treatment in Vermont and has truly blossomed in foster care.

Archie loves being outside, going for walks, and playing with chew toys. He’s also a little mischievous — leave your socks lying around and you’ll probably find them stashed somewhere “safe” later. He’s social with other dogs and would be happy with a canine companion, or as your one and only.

He is house-trained, crate-trained, sleeps through the night, and is learning to respond to his name. Loud noises can startle him, and nail trims are not his favorite thing, but his resilience shines through. Once he knows he’s safe, he’ll come close, lean in, and let you see the softness behind his soulful eyes.

Archie is a survivor — a hound who had every reason to give up on people, but chose to keep loving instead. He’s waiting for someone who sees beyond the scars and crooked legs, someone who hears the call of a hound with a story worth believing in.

If you’re looking for a joyful, loyal, and endlessly endearing companion, Archie is ready to fill your home with tail wags, muddy paws, and the kind of love only a rescue dog can give.
