 Why Rescue A Dog

Every year, four million highly adoptable dogs are killed in this country’s “shelters.” That’s 1 dog every 13 seconds. Dogs end up in shelters for many reasons, most often through no fault of their own. Divorce, relocation, medical issues, a new job, a death in the family, inability to provide care—just a few of the many reasons a perfectly wonderful dog is suddenly homeless.

So, why rescue a dog?

  • Because rescue dogs are happy, healthy, well-socialized animals just waiting for the right family to come along.

  • Because adopting is cheaper than buying. Rescue dogs are already spayed or neutered and vaccinated and given a clean bill of health when they leave the shelter.

  • Because when you rescue a dog, you not only save his or her life . . . you save the life of the dog who takes the space you helped free up.

Adopt

Adoption not only saves the life of the dog you adopt, but frees up space to save a second dog that can now be provided shelter with a rescue or foster family.  Most of our dogs come from rescues in southern states that face constant overcrowding and high rates of euthanasia, but increasingly, we are finding homes for Vermont dogs that for one reason or another are facing neglect, abuse or homelessness.

Foster

For the Love of Dogs Vermont is a shelterless rescue. We rely on volunteers to provide short- and long-term care for our rescues until they can be placed with their new families.

Donate

Every gift, large or small, saves dogs' lives. As an all volunteer organization, all donations go directly towards expenses to find dogs' homes, such as basic and emergency veterinary care, transportation, boarding and training when needed, and supplies (toys, food, crates, collars, leashes etc) for our foster families in Vermont. Your donation is essential. Help us help the dogs in need both in Vermont and in the south.
