FLOD VT recommends crating your dog for the first few months, until you are certain he or she understands your requirements for his behavior while you are away. Renters must consent to purchase a crate as a condition of adoption. Are you familiar with crate training as a house training method?
Would you be interested in learning about crate training?
We ask you to think carefully about adopting a rescue and your commitment to the process of helping him or her settle into your life. Based on the video you watched COMMITMENT FACTORS BEFORE YOU RESCUE OR ADOPT, please describe your thoughts regarding the Time, Space and Budget you have for a dog.
*
Are you willing to give your dog adequate time to adjust to a new home? Two weeks is the average amount of time it takes a dog to fully adjust.
Are you committed to caring for a dog for its life expectancy of approximately 14 years, including all medical bills that might occur? An adult dog can test positive for heartworm after adoption and all dogs, especially puppies, may require additional rounds of parasite treatment. Treatment for heartworm and parasites is the adopter's financial responsibility. Please read the attached document Heartworm and Parasite Management.
